Anthony Umbro is a senior at Nashua North High School. His musical journey began at the age of six with piano lessons. From an early age, he demonstrated a passion for composition, creating and performing original pieces for his family. In fourth grade, Anthony began playing the clarinet at Charlotte Ave Elementary School in Nashua. Due to his perfect pitch, he initially faced challenges transposing to B-flat. His band teacher recommended that he try the oboe, an instrument he quickly fell in love with and has since dedicated himself to for the past seven years.

Anthony has been an active member of the Groton Hill Music Center's Sinfonia and Wind Ensemble for the past six years, and currently performs with his high school’s Select Band and Jazz Band. This marks his third year participating in the NH All-State Band Concert, and he was awarded the 2025 New Hampshire Music Educators Association (NHMEA) Composition Contest for his original composition, Draconica Suite. In addition to his dedication to the oboe, Anthony has a strong passion for piano, particularly jazz piano, and has regularly attended Groton Hill’s monthly Jazz Jams this year. Outside of performance, he is an avid composer, creating a wide range of musical works in his spare time.

Anthony is passionate about both the art of music and the logic of numbers, and he dreams of combining these interests through a college degree in oboe performance and mathematics, with a special focus on statistics. His love for playing the oboe goes beyond just creating beautiful music; it’s a way for him to express emotion and connect with others. At the same time, he finds joy in learning about mathematics, especially statistics, appreciating the way numbers can reveal patterns and insights in the world around him. Anthony is excited to pursue a future where he can blend his musical talents with his analytical mind.

Anthony enjoys diving into imaginative worlds through his favorite hobbies. As a dedicated Dungeons & Dragons player, he thrives on collaborative storytelling and the thrill of adventure. His love for fantasy extends to reading epic novels filled with magic, mystery, and unforgettable characters. Drawing inspiration from these rich narratives, Anthony composes his own music, crafting original pieces that capture the emotion and atmosphere of the worlds he explores.
